John Slattery is a Ph.D. Candidate in Systematic Theology and the History & Philosophy of Science. His dissertation, titled Old Science, New Problems: A Theological Analysis of Rev. John Zahm’s Attempt to Bridge Evolution and Roman Catholicism, engages a multidisciplinary method of investigating the relationship between theology and science by focusing on the philosophical conceptions of science on the part of John Zahm, an American evolutionist in the late 19th century, as well as on the part of the members of the Vatican’s Sacred Congregation of the Index who censured Zahm’s work.
John is currently working with Professor Don Howard to edit and publish Fr. Ernan McMullin’s unfinished book on the relationship between theology, philosophy, and science. The book is entitled Seeking Consonance: Theology and the Natural Sciences (Oxford University Press).
In 2012, John helped found the popular academic theology blog, DailyTheology.org, which has over 7,000 followers and over 450,000 lifetime views. Today John is a regular blogger and co-editor of the site.
