The International Seminar on Science and Religion cooperation for Environmental Care (ISSREC) issued the Declaration of Torrecuidad to promote cooperation between science and religion for environmental conservation. Inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’, the ISSREC sought to answer the pope’s summons to increase dialogue between the different religions and the sciences with the hope of developing solutions to massive global problems, namely environmental degradation and the suffering of the poor and marginalized. The commission was greeted by a letter from Pope Francis acknowledging their efforts and asking for their prayers. Professor Celia Deane-Drummond, Director of the Center for Theology, Science and Human Flourishing, participated in the event and contributed to the declaration.
